Not for music streaming services
Please don’t upload the music to Spotify, Apple Music or any other music streaming service, and no remixes, samples or covers of it there either, because that triggers false Content ID claims.
How to credit
Copy this into the description of your video, stream, podcast episode or post (the copy button above does it for you): Music by Purrple Cat or the full licence version Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. If you cannot add text (a shop, an event), a small sign or a line in your “thanks” page is fine.
How the nap timer works
Choose 10, 20, 30 or 90 minutes and press Start nap. The music fades in over about 20 seconds. In the last 10 seconds it fades out, and a soft three-note chime plays, getting a little louder each time, up to six times. Press I’m awake to stop it, or Snooze for five more minutes. The countdown is based on the real clock, and the page asks your device to keep the screen awake while you nap. The chime is made in your browser with the Web Audio API: there is no sound file. Read more in the nap timer guide.
Alarm safety
The nap timer is a gentle wake-up, not a safety alarm. It only works while the page is open and your device has sound on. Set a backup alarm on your phone. Do not rely on this page for a flight, a train, medicine or a pick-up. Never nap while driving.
How the doze rating works
Every song has a doze rating from 1 to 100, shown as one to five z’s. It is worked out from the audio itself: average loudness (30%), beat density (25%), tone brightness (15%), tempo (10%) and how much the volume changes (20%). Quieter, sparser, warmer, steadier songs score higher. The most awake 12% of songs were left out. Nap lengths use the same ratings to put soft songs first, the deepest in the middle and a gentle lift at the end.
How the player works
Press play on any playlist and the player at the bottom takes over. It keeps playing while you click around the site. Use the clock button to open the nap timer, the loop button to repeat, and shuffle for a random order. Space plays or pauses. Each song has an MP3 button for a free download, and each playlist has an M3U8 file for VLC and other players.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the best music for a nap?
Slow, quiet, steady instrumental music with no lyrics and no sudden changes. This site has 202 songs, each rated 1 to 5 for how easily it lets you drift off, plus music fitted to 10, 20, 30 and 90 minute naps.
How does the nap timer work?
Choose 10, 20, 30 or 90 minutes and press Start nap. The music fades in over about 20 seconds, keeps playing, and fades out in the last 10 seconds. Then a soft chime plays and gets a little louder each time until you press I’m awake. Your screen stays on while the nap runs, if your browser supports it.
How long should a power nap be?
Ten to twenty minutes for most people. Thirty minutes is the upper limit before you risk waking groggy. For a full sleep cycle, use 90 minutes.
Is the nap timer a safe alarm?
It is a gentle wake-up, not a safety alarm. Set a backup alarm on your phone, check your volume with the Test the chime button, and keep this tab open. Do not rely on it for a flight, a train, medicine or a pick-up.
Is this nap music free?
Yes. Every playlist streams free with no sign-up and no ads, and every track has a free MP3 download. The music is by Purrple Cat and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0).
Are these nap songs instrumental?
Yes, all of them. There are no lyrics, so they are easy to rest to, and the music has no sudden loud parts.
How are the doze ratings worked out?
Each song’s audio is analysed for average loudness, how dense the beat is, how bright the tone is, how much the volume changes and its tempo. Quieter, sparser, warmer, steadier songs score higher. The score is shown as one to five z’s.
Does the music keep playing when I change page?
Yes. The player and the nap timer keep going while you move around the site, so you can read a guide while the timer runs.
Can I use these songs in my videos and livestreams?
Yes, with credit. Use them on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and other social media, in videos, streams, games, shops and cafés. Add the credit “Music by Purrple Cat”.
Will my videos get Content ID claims?
No. The music is not registered with Content ID, so videos, streams and VODs will not be claimed for it.
Can I upload the music to Spotify or Apple Music?
No. Please don’t upload the music to music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer or Tidal, and no remixes, samples or covers of it there either, because that triggers false Content ID claims.
Can I download a playlist or use it in another player?
Yes. Download any track as an MP3, or save a whole playlist as an M3U8 file and open it in VLC or any media player.
Who makes the music?
Purrple Cat, an independent lofi project since 2018 with 500+ songs. Every track here is an original instrumental.
